Curtin University is currently the only university in Western Australia that offers undergraduate and postgraduate units focused solely on the delivery of relationships and sexuality education (RSE). Our priority is on assisting you to plan, deliver and assess RSE lessons that are engaging, comprehensive and evidence-based. All units include a broad range of practical teaching strategies that can be used in school or community settings. For school teachers, you will find many of these engaging strategies are also transferable to other issues and learning areas.

RSE Curtin Credential

A 6 week, 30hr course that is suitable for anyone who works in school or community settings to learn about contemporary issues related to relationships and sexuality education (RSE). From the novice educator through to someone who might want a refresher, this course will provide you with contemporary and fundamental information related to RSE delivery, with a particular focus on the Australian context. The course focuses on the key evidence-based principles that underpin the delivery of RSE and will help you on your journey to deliver engaging and inclusive content. You’ll learn from supportive, highly trained professionals with decades of experience and expertise in education, sexology, and health promotion.

Relationships and Sexuality Education

This unit is designed to prepare students to deliver relationships and sexuality education (RSE), within a school or community-based setting. RSE is learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, relationships, sex, sexuality and sexual health. Students will apply pedagogical approaches: acquiring knowledge, skills and positive attitudes towards RSE; and examine, plan, deliver and assess current RSE content. Other topics include the importance of a safe and supportive classroom environment, overcoming perceived barriers to RSE delivery, innovative teaching strategies, engagement with key stakeholders, affirming diversity, and working competently and confidently in a multicultural environment.

Pre-Masters Sexology Specialisation

This unit is designed to prepare students to deliver relationships and sexuality education (RSE), within a school or community-based setting. Graduate Certificates prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.

This course provides professionals with specialist knowledge and skills in the area of human sexuality. It also provides a comprehensive study of biological, psychological and social aspects of human sexuality based on recent research.

Graduate Diploma in Sexology

Graduate Diplomas prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.

This course provides professionals with specialist knowledge and skills in the area of human sexuality. It also provides a comprehensive study of biological, psychological and social aspects of human sexuality based on recent research. Complementary studies in research methods are included.

Master of Sexology (Professional)

Master Degrees (Coursework) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for professional practice, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.

This course provides individuals with specialist knowledge and skills in the area of sexology. Graduates should have a comprehensive knowledge of recent research examining the biological, psychological and social aspects of human sexuality. It is anticipated that on completion of the program, graduates will be able to integrate this specialisation into their professional discipline, and be conversant with the key aspects of sexology as a public health issue. Complementary study in research methods is included. In addition to coursework students undertake a professional capstone unit.

Cross-Institutional Study

Cross-institutional enrolment | Current Students

These units can also be completed on not-for-degree basis, meaning you can just complete the one unit without being enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. Students at other Western Australian universities can also access these units via a cross-institutional enrolment.

Outbound enrolment is where a student remains enrolled in their principal course at Curtin and undertake units from another Australian university.

Inbound enrolment is where a student remains enrolled in their principle course in another Australian University undertakes units at Curtin.

Both universities agree to the enrolment and the student obtains credit for the units in their principal course.
